A special opportunity for all educators interested in children’s literacy development- Reading Recovery professionals, literacy specialists, classroom teachers and school leaders.

Kia ora koutou katoa. Welcome to the website of the 10th International Reading Recovery Institute to be held July 17-19, 2019 in Auckland, Aotearoa/NZ. For 30 years this event has been hosted in many countries around the world. Recent Institutes have brought people together in Vancouver (2016), Sydney (2013), London (2010) and Baltimore (2007).

Theme for 2019

Kaitiakitanga: Nurturing Literate Futures

Kaitiakitanga means guardianship and protection. The theme emphasizes the importance of protecting and strengthening literacy learning for future generations. As you can see from the Institute emblem the lively Pīwakawaka and her chick have been chosen to portray notions of caring and nourishment, a focus for New Zealand’s rich natural and human resources.

An exciting programme with wide appeal is being organized for the Institute. Addresses by world renowned literacy experts, and international Reading Recovery professionals are planned.

The venue will be the Aotea Centre, situated in the heart of Auckland, close to world-class hotels, restaurants, and entertainment options.

Information on plenary speakers, accommodation options and an array of links to Auckland and other New Zealand attractions is available throughout the website. We hope our international visitors seize the opportunity to explore our beautiful country.

New Zealand Reading Recovery looks forward to welcoming you on behalf of the International Reading Recovery Trainers Organisation (IRRTO), an organization committed to the vision of making Reading Recovery accessible worldwide to all those who need it.
