Sinéad Harmey is a Reading Recovery National Leader and Lecturer in Literacy Education based at Reading Recovery Europe which is part of the International Literacy Centre at the UCL Institute of Education. Her research interests include describing young children’s literacy development (particularly in writing), early literacy assessment and intervention, and teacher professional development. These interests are rooted in her experiences as a primary teacher, Reading Recovery teacher and teacher leader, and in higher education. She has worked in Ireland, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Her current research focuses on understanding more about individual differences in writing development, teacher practices in writing instruction, and the link between theory and practice in literacy assessment and evaluation. She co-authored the most recent meta-analytic review of Reading Recovery and her work has been published in Journal of Early Childhood Literacy, Journal of Education for Students Placed at Risk and Research in the Teaching of English.
