Professor Shelley Stagg Peterson

Shelley Stagg Peterson, a former primary teacher, is a professor in the Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning at the University of Toronto. She currently conducts action research with kindergarten and grade one teachers in northern Canadian rural and First Nations communities examining ways to support children’s oral language and writing in play contexts. She is a former board member of the Canadian Institute for Reading Recovery and the International Literacy Association. When not teaching, researching and writing on literacy topics, Shelley, her husband and young cat can be found at their acreage, where the mice are stout of heart and far too clever as they assert their squatting rights in a 100-year old farm house that is empty during the week.
